100% FULL POWER | MURRY HILTON
"an Indian odyssey captured in print"
100% FULL POWER is a kaleidoscopic interpretation of Hilton’s latest travelogue, a singular journey through India and its religious expression. His lens and digital manipulations transport us into the swirling centre of a rich, spiritual and frenetic culture. His work embodies humour, tenderness, beauty and joy, all executed with precision and confabulation - the hallmarks of Hilton’s most compelling work.
"figurative glimpses of vedic geometry"
“In October 2012 I embarked upon a photographic essay of the holy men & women on the primordial banks of the Ganges, Varanasi/Banaris, India. These pilgrims and worshippers interact in a microcosm of Hinduism, glorified by legend and sanctified by religion. Steeped in tradition and mythological legacy they seem unchanged since time immemorial.
Mindful of vedic geometry, 100%FULLPOWER has been edited utilising the mathematical principles of Yantra for enhanced contemplation”.
Murray Hilton, September 2014.
Murray Hilton is an enigma of the Australian art scene. Showing rarely, his eagerly awaited exhibitions never fail to enthral - always the product of a sharp eye and a unique and assured aesthetic.
Growing up in Chinchilla, a country town in the deep west of Queensland, Hilton became heavily influenced by Australian iconography. Searching to distill the notion of Australian-ness, both in its opposition and connection to other cultures, his work is a process of fragmentation and re-arrangement - a quest for purity, an attempt to attain the very essence of his subject matter and to present it in its most perfect aspect. For more than 20 years, Hilton’s mission has been to make us appreciate our world with fresh eyes and understanding. His total immersion in his subject matter allows us to be immersive with it.
